PREPARING FOR THE LONG HAUL

The team's expensive cargo of race cars and equipment is transported around the country in the impressive race transporter.

The Team BOC "B-Double" covers around 50,000km per year at a cost to the team of approximately $100,000.

The Team BOC b-double is stocked with enough parts to completely rebuild the cars, including spare engines, gear boxes, diffs and every other body part.

They lug 10 boxes of spark plugs, 64 spare wheels and tyres (eight per car), two sets of doors and one spare steering wheel. Driver equipment is also carried including helmets, overalls, shoes, underwear and two-way radio head sets.

The team even carries their own physiotherapy table to give drivers a good rub-down before and after they race.

There are 15 tool boxes and pit lane equipment including boom, gas canisters and air jack, and panel beating equipment.

The trailers are split into distinct compartments, with the A-trailer used for carrying the heavy equipment during transit. When stationary, it becomes the engineers briefing room and travelling office. The front section of the b-trailer is used as the driver's area where they can store their helmets, driving suits and race gear. The middle section of the b-trailer is the workshop area and includes a lathe, vice and work benches. The two race cars travel nose to tail on ramps above the workshop area.

The underbelly of the B trailer features 16 lockers loaded with spare gear boxes, diffs, jack stands, car set up equipment and consumables.

Guiding the rig is Caterpillar Trucks brand new CT630 prime mover. The CT630 offers the team transporter drivers all the comforts required for the highway journeys around Australia. The cab features a three point mounting system with rear air suspension. The drivers ride in a hi-back air suspended leather seat with built in seatbelt and blend air/heat air conditioner with fresh air filter.

The prime mover is powered by the awesome Cat C15 ACERT engine. The 6 cylinder inline power plant is turbocharged and after cooled with electronic direct injection. It's rated at 550h @1800 rpm and 1850ft/lb torque @1200rpm.

It has a Fuller RTLO-20918B 18 speed overdrive transmission and has two 660lt polished aluminum fuel tanks capable of carrying 980 lts.

The rig is fitted with 295/80 R22.5 Dunlop tyres on 8.25 x 22.5 10 stud bright finish alloy wheels.
