Brad Jones Racing History
As the only V8 Supercar teams to be located in a regional centre, Albury (NSW) based BJR has one of the strongest pedigrees in Australian motorsport. With brothers Brad and Kim at the helm, BJR have won ten national titles in five different categories, in over 17 years of professional motorsport.
Having won in championships in AUSCAR (4), NASCAR (1) and Production Cars (1) and after five years as the official Audi Australia factory team, during which it twice won the driver championship and the manufacturer's crown, Brad and Kim moved into the world of V8 Supercar.
In 2001, the Jones brothers established their V8 Supercar outfit from the assets of Tony Longhurst's Falcon team - including his car and Level One franchise.
In their fourth season campaigning V8 Supercar's, they won their first V8 Supercar title; the 2004 Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Series with Andrew Jones at the wheel.
Since then, the team freely admits they have not yet reached their full potential, other than blistering performances at the legendary Bathurst 1000.
2006 and 2007 didn't go to plan for the team. With several driver lineup and management changes the team struggled to find their feet. In 2008 however, the team joined forces with Holden, and signed a supply agreement with Walkinshaw Performance to bring the team back to the forfront of Australian Motorsport.
2009 saw a continuation of the Walkinshaw Performance supply agreement. Jason Richards was very fast early in the season scoring top 5 finishes at the first few rounds. A pole position at Hidden Valley and a fastest qualifying performance and podium finish at the Bathurst 1000 were the highlights for the Albury based outfit.
Jason Bright's signing to replace the retiring Cam McConville, for the 2010 season placed BJR in a strong position. The team secured Trading Post as naming rights sponsors for the No 14 VE Commodore replacing WOW Sight & Sound. Fair Dinkum Sheds joined the team as naming rights sponsor on a third VE Commodore and was driven by V8 Rookie Karl Reindler. BJR prepared and ran this car under Jason Bright's Britek Motorsport licence.
The 2010 season was a successful time for BJR. Leading V8 Supercar race engineer Phil Keed joined the team and reunited with Jason Bright. The two had shared a winning partnership previously at PWR and FPR.
Jason Richards continued to show incredible speed with his fastest qualifying position at the Hidden Valley round and possibly the drive of the year at Phillip Island where with co driver Andrew Jones fought back from a drive through penalty to finish on the podium in third position. BJR's other car was also finding form in the second half of the season with Jason Bright scorching around Bathurst to post the fastest qualifying time and following up the effort with a 4th place finish. Jason Bright's great car speed and qualifying form continued late into the year with a third place podium finish at the Symmons Plains round in Tasmania and finally a second place finish in the opening race at the season ending Telstra Sydney 500.
The team's on track success was tinged with sadness late in the year with the news that Jason Richards had been diagnosed with cancer. Richards drive for the last two rounds was handed to co driver Andrew Jones.
With Richards continuing his treatment into the start of the 2011 season, the team employed the services of Jason Bargwanna. Bargs joined the team from Kelly Racing and drove the No 14 Jana Living Racing VE Commodore. Jason Bright switched teams to replace JR in the Team BOC Commodore this year. The year finished on a very sad note with Jason Richards losing his 14 month battle with cancer. Although gone, he will always be considered part of the Brad Jones racing family.
2012 saw the team receive major support from two new sponsors. Lockwood AssaAbloy stepped up to take over the naming rights on Car 14, Fabian Coulthard joined the team from Walkinshaw Racing to just miss the top ten in the drivers championship. Wilson Security also joined the team as the naming rights sponsor on the team's third entry. Team co driver from 2010/2011, David Wall stepped up to a fulltime V8 Supercar drive as driver for the No 21 Wilson Security Racing VE Commodore. Jason Bright continued into his third year with the team in the No 8 Team BOC VE Commodore.
2013 sees the team remain intact from the 2012 season. Naming rights sponsors, BOC, Assa Abloy Lockwood and Wilson Security return to support the team as do the three drivers, Jason Bright, Fabian Coulthard and David Wall. The team will be debuting three brand new Holden VF Commodores built in house at the team’s Albury Workshop.
